[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Four days before World Drug Day on the 26th, the court sentenced the CEO of a pharmaceutical company accused of drug use to a suspended sentence in the first trial.
The Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 9 (Judge Park Mison) announced on the 26th that on the 22nd, it sentenced A (55), the CEO of a pharmaceutical company indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances), to one year in prison with a two-year suspension. The court also ordered probation and 40 hours of drug treatment lectures.
The court pointed out, "Drug crimes have great harm to society due to their hallucinogenic and addictive nature, so strict punishment is necessary," and "The defendant has a prior record of being sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year suspension for a similar crime in 2017."
However, the court explained the sentencing reason, stating, "(The defendant) admitted to the crime in this case, and the purchase of methamphetamine was solely for personal use, with only one instance of use."
A was indicted on charges of transferring 800,000 won to a dealer he met through a mobile phone application around February 4 last year and purchasing 1 gram of methamphetamine hidden in the stairs of a building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Additionally, A is accused of using the methamphetamine he purchased in his car in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the same day.
Meanwhile, A is known as the CEO of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company. The company is listed on KONEX.
