"Under Investigation for Fraud Allegations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The ‘Eslotmi’ case, in which the company disappeared after collecting investment funds by promising high returns if one purchased or rented cryptocurrency mining machines, has been transferred to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 23rd that it has taken over the complaints related to Eslotmi filed at police stations nationwide and has begun an investigation.
According to the victims, a company named ‘Eslot’ opened an office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, in November last year and started recruiting investors through the internet site ‘Eslotmi’ from January this year.
The company reportedly offered conditions to investors stating that they operated overseas cryptocurrency mining farms and guaranteed a daily return rate of 0.7 to 3.0% upon investment.
They revealed images of the overseas mining farms via social networking services (SNS) and attracted investors by placing advertisements in subway stations, buses, and other public transportation.
Additionally, they operated four group chat rooms?General Room, VIP Room, VVIP Room, and SVIP Room?providing investment information according to the amount invested.
When the Eslotmi website was shut down around the 3rd of this month, the victims realized it was a ‘fraud’ and filed complaints at police stations across the country.
A police official stated, "We are currently investigating the case on suspicion of fraud after taking over the case."
