How to Respond to Climate Change in Daily Life?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is holding a climate change response poster contest for elementary and middle school students in the district to raise awareness of climate change among future generations.

Recently, the issue of climate change has become serious worldwide, with frequent unexpected heavy rains, heatwaves, and other abnormal weather causing continuous damage.

Accordingly, the district planned this contest to provide children with time to think about climate change themselves and consider practical ways to respond to the climate crisis.

The contest theme is the willingness to take action against climate change, including ▲the causes of climate change such as global warming and efforts to respond ▲methods to reduce greenhouse gases and save energy in daily life, all to be depicted in drawings.

Any student enrolled in elementary or middle schools in the district can participate, with elementary students submitting drawings on B4 size paper and middle school students on A3 size paper.

Students wishing to participate can submit their application forms and completed works by mail or in person to the Green Environment Division of Gangseo-gu from July 4 to 29. However, mailed submissions are valid only if they arrive on the due date.

Detailed information and application forms can be found on the Gangseo-gu Office website (homepage) under Gangseo News - Notices.

The district will select 25 final award-winning works on August 4 through a judging committee composed of three experts recommended by the Gangseo Art Association.

Among all entries, one grand prize will be awarded, and in the elementary lower grades (1st-3rd grade), elementary upper grades (4th-6th grade), and middle school categories, three excellence awards and five encouragement awards will be selected respectively.

The results will be posted on the Gangseo-gu Office website in August, and winners will be individually notified. The 25 awardees will receive certificates signed by the Mayor of Gangseo-gu.

The district plans to exhibit the winning works in an online gallery on the Gangseo-gu Office website to raise residents' interest in climate change.

The award-winning works will be available from October on the Gangseo-gu Office website under Information by Category - Environment/Cleaning - Climate Change Response Contest.

A district official said, “This contest was held to raise awareness of the importance of the environment among future generations, elementary and middle school students. We hope that more young people will become interested in climate change through this contest.”
