[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Myunghwan] On the 25th, the number of new COVID-19 cases was recorded at 6,790, showing a similar level to last Saturday, the 18th. The number of new cases has remained below 10,000 for 16 consecutive days since the 10th.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on this day, 6,790 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed. The cumulative number of confirmed cases reached 18,319,773.


The number of new cases on this day was 437 fewer than the previous day's 7,227. It was 32 fewer than the 6,828 cases reported last Saturday, the 18th. This is the lowest number of new cases reported on a Saturday since January 15, when 4,419 cases were recorded. The number of new cases has remained below 10,000 for 16 consecutive days since the 10th, when 9,310 cases were reported.


The daily new cases for the past week from the 19th are as follows: 6,066 → 3,534 → 9,303 → 8,982 → 7,497 → 7,227 → 6,790. The average daily number of confirmed cases is 7,057.


Among the new cases on this day, 85 were imported cases, and the remaining 6,705 were locally transmitted cases.


The number of critically ill patients is 50, down by 2 from 52 the previous day. The number of critically ill patients increased significantly after the Omicron wave but has been declining since late March when it was in the 1,300s, maintaining double digits since the 12th.


The number of COVID-19 deaths reported the previous day was 18, which is 8 more than the 10 deaths reported the day before. The cumulative death toll is 24,516, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.
