[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] As of 9 PM on the 24th, over 6,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide.
According to Seoul and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on this day, 6,400 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is 447 fewer than the 6,847 cases recorded during the same time frame the previous day.
Compared to 6,485 cases reported during the same time frame one week ago on the 17th, the number decreased by 85, and compared to 8,098 cases two weeks ago on the 10th, it decreased by 1,698.
Although the number of confirmed cases decreased compared to the same day of the previous week and the previous day's same time frame, the rate of decline is not significant. At midnight on this day, new confirmed cases were 7,227, which was actually 32 more than the previous week.
Health authorities believe that the immunity formed through COVID-19 vaccination or natural infection is gradually waning over time, and the decline in the outbreak is entering a plateau phase.
As of 9 PM on this day, new confirmed cases were 3,493 (54.6%) in the metropolitan area and 2,907 (45.4%) in non-metropolitan areas.
By region, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 1,616, Seoul 1,552, Gyeongnam 405, Gyeongbuk 341, Incheon 325, Chungnam 272, Daegu 267, Gangwon 249, Jeonnam 222, Ulsan 191, Busan 183, Chungbuk 178, Jeonbuk 178, Daejeon 163, Gwangju 126, Jeju 79, and Sejong 53.
