Survey for the 4th week of June: 'Positive' Decreases, 'Negative' Remains Unchanged

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Positive evaluations of President Yoon Seok-yeol's job performance dropped by 2 percentage points compared to a week ago, according to a survey conducted on the 24th.


According to the results of the Korea Gallup survey for the fourth week of June, 47% responded that President Yoon is performing well, while 38% said he is performing poorly. Negative evaluations remained the same as the previous week, but positive evaluations fell from 49% to 47% during the same period. Since taking office, positive evaluations of his job performance had maintained the low 50% range but have been declining since last week when they dropped to the 40% range.


The response "doing well" was high among supporters of the People Power Party (82%), conservative-leaning groups (70%), and those aged 60 and above (in the 60% range). The response "doing poorly" was more common among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea (70%), progressive-leaning groups (66%), and those in their 40s (62%).


By region, the highest positive evaluation was recorded in the Daegu·Gyeongbuk area at 71% (negative evaluation 20%). Conversely, the lowest positive evaluation was in the Gwangju·Jeolla region at 26% (negative evaluation 53%).

By age group, negative evaluations were higher among those in their 30s and 40s. Positive evaluations led in other age groups. For ages 18?29, positive 50% and negative 30%; 30s, positive 35% and negative 45%; 40s, positive 28% and negative 62%; 50s, positive 48% and negative 42%; 60s, positive 61% and negative 28%; 70 and above, positive 63% and negative 16%.


Respondents who evaluated positively cited communication, economy and livelihood, decisiveness, drive and perseverance, overcoming the previous administration, real estate policies, fairness, justice and principles, and national defense and security as reasons. The re-investigation of the West Sea government official shooting incident was also positively evaluated as a current issue.


Those who evaluated negatively pointed out personnel matters, economy and livelihood, lack of experience and qualifications, incompetence, unilateral and arbitrary actions, relocation of the presidential office, and job attitude. Party support was 42% for the People Power Party, 28% for the Democratic Party of Korea, 4% for the Justice Party, and 25% for the non-affiliated group.


This survey was conducted from the 21st to the 23rd of June nationwide among 1,000 people aged 18 and over, using telephone interviewer interviews. The sample was randomly drawn from a wireless phone RDD sample frame (including 10% wired RDD). The response rate was 10.3%, with 1,000 respondents out of 9,746 contacted.
