Korean Air Reaches Wage Agreement with General and Pilot Unions... "First Simultaneous Settlement Since Inception"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Korean Air announced on the 24th that it has reached a wage agreement with the Korean Air Labor Union (hereinafter referred to as the General Union) and the Korean Air Pilots Union (hereinafter referred to as the Pilots Union). This is the first time in Korean Air's history that wage negotiations with both the General Union and the Pilots Union have been concluded simultaneously on the same day.

Korean Air conducted 2022 wage negotiations separately with the General Union and the Pilots Union at its headquarters located in Gonghang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul the previous day. They reached a sudden agreement to increase the total wage amount by 10%.

Additionally, for flight crew members, wages for 2020 and 2021, which had not been agreed upon previously, will be frozen. The General Union had previously frozen wages for 2020 and 2021 as part of a shared sacrifice to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

The simultaneous wage increase agreement between the General Union and the Pilots Union was supported by the determination of both major unions and management to work together to quickly overcome the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

With this tentative agreement between labor and management, Korean Air has created a new atmosphere of mutual growth and can now take vigorous steps toward normalizing operations in response to the recovery of passenger demand. Korean Air plans to continue making sustained efforts to build a progressive and cooperative labor-management relationship.
