[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The South Korean swimming team has achieved another great feat. For the first time in Korean swimming history, they set a new Korean record in the final of the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the World Championships, finishing in 6th place. The 4x200m freestyle relay is a team event where four swimmers each swim 200 meters freestyle consecutively to determine the ranking.
On the morning of the 24th (Korean time), the South Korean team competed in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay final at the 2022 FINA World Championships held at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary, finishing 6th among 8 countries with a new Korean record of 7 minutes 06.93 seconds. This is the highest ever achievement by Korea in a relay event at the World Swimming Championships.
The race order was Hwang Sunwoo - Kim Woo-min (Gangwon Province Office) - Lee Yooyeon (Korea National Sport University) - Lee Hojun (Daegu City Hall). The first swimmer, Hwang Sunwoo, finished the 200m leg in first place, but was overtaken one by one afterward, handing the baton to the last swimmer Lee Hojun in 4th place, and the team finished the race in 6th place. They also broke their preliminary record (7 minutes 08.49 seconds) by 1.56 seconds, setting a new record.
The gold medal went to the United States (7 minutes 00.24 seconds), silver to Australia (7 minutes 03.50 seconds), and bronze to Great Britain (7 minutes 04.00 seconds).
