[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] On the 22nd, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do held a proclamation ceremony to designate Jeungdo as the honorary island of Gangnam and an unveiling ceremony of a sculpture to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the sisterhood agreement with Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in Jeungdo-myeon.

The event was held with the attendance of Park Woo-ryang, Mayor of Sinan-gun, Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, and local residents, and a sculpture symbolizing 'Gangnam's Island Jeungdo' was also unveiled.

Park Woo-ryang, Mayor of Sinan-gun, said, “Jeungdo, called the Treasure Island, is an island where everyone wants to visit and live, and I am very honored to share it as Gangnam-gu's honorary island. Recently, it has been developed into a fine dust blocking forest, and I hope people find the leisure and natural fragrance that they cannot enjoy in big cities here on Gangnam's island.”

Going forward, Sinan-gun plans not only to share the beautiful natural scenery of Jeungdo in Sinan-gun and Gangnam-gu, Seoul, but also to develop mutual growth through administrative cooperation. Gangnam residents will be given discounts on room rates at Jeungdo Eldorado Resort and admission fees to various cultural and tourism facilities.

Meanwhile, the honorary island sharing project promoted by the county has shared eight islands so far, starting with sharing Haedo, the hometown of former President Kim Dae-jung, with Gimhae City, the hometown of former President Roh Moo-hyun.
