[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Congressman So Byeong-cheol (Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, Gurye Gap) expressed his welcome on the 23rd for the successful mediation by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission regarding the complaint raised by residents of Yeongmu Yedaeum Apartment in Suncheon City about the external relocation of air conditioner outdoor units.
The residents were able to relocate the air conditioner outdoor units after expanding the evacuation space within the apartment complex.
After receiving the complaint last year, Congressman So conveyed the residents' opinions to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, which led the mediation, and to Suncheon City, working hard for a prompt resolution of the complaint.
Yeongmu Yedaeum Apartment was constructed in April 2019 with air conditioner outdoor units installed in the apartment utility rooms, and residents began moving in with this setup.
As a result, about 200 households experienced inconvenience as they could not use the utility rooms during summer due to the heat reaching nearly 50 degrees Celsius generated by the outdoor units, and there was also a significant risk of fire due to overheating.
In response, residents filed a complaint with Suncheon City requesting the installation of brackets on the apartment exterior walls to relocate the outdoor units outside. However, under current laws, if there is space inside for installing outdoor units, protrusions for outdoor units cannot be installed on exterior walls, so the residents' inconvenience continued.
The mediation attended by Lee Jeong-hee, Vice Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Son Jeom-sik, Deputy Mayor of Suncheon City, city council members Choi Byeong-bae and Jang Gyeong-sun, and Oh Jong-cheol, the representative of Yeongmu Yedaeum Apartment residents, has resolved the outdoor unit relocation issue that residents had faced for the past three years.
Congressman So Byeong-cheol said, "This mediation has opened the way for Yeongmu Yedaeum Apartment residents to enjoy a cool and safe summer," and expressed gratitude to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Suncheon City, and city and provincial council members who devotedly worked to resolve the residents' difficulties.
He added, "I will closely monitor the implementation of this mediation and continue to pursue competent public service politics that can solve the various inconveniences Suncheon citizens face in their daily lives."
