[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The Jamsil 5 Complex in Jamsil, Songpa-gu, Seoul is set to be reborn as a large-scale complex with approximately 6,800 households.
On the 23rd, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced through the Seoul City Bulletin that it had decided and officially notified the "Basic Development Plan for Jamsil Apartment District and Reconstruction Maintenance Plan for Jamsil Jugong 5 Complex Apartments." This plan was approved by the Urban Planning Committee in February and finalized after a public inspection and announcement to residents.
The Jamsil 5 Complex will be transformed from the existing 3,930 households to a large-scale complex of 6,815 households (including 611 public housing units). The land near Jamsil Station will be rezoned from a Category 3 General Residential Area to a Semi-Residential Area, allowing buildings up to 50 stories high.
Built in 1978, the complex is the largest reconstruction project in Songpa-gu, marking its 45th year since completion this year. Residents began preparing for the reconstruction project in 2014, but faced difficulties as the agenda was not even submitted after the Urban Planning Committee review in 2017.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government held several meetings to gather residents' suggestions and adjusted the detailed maintenance plan accordingly, going through a thorough preparatory process.
