Yeosu Coast Guard Slips and Falls into the Sea While Collecting Water, No Casualties Reported


[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] The Yeosu Maritime Police Station in Jeonnam announced on the 23rd that "a fishing enthusiast slipped on the slipway at Hwataedo Pier in Yeosu and fell into the sea, but there were no casualties due to emergency rescue."


According to Yeosu Maritime Police, at 10:04 PM on the 22nd, a report was received from a group that Mr. A (36 years old, male) fell into the sea while fishing near the breakwater of Woljeon Port, Hwataedo, Yeosu City, and was holding onto a rope in the water.


Upon receiving the report, Yeosu Maritime Police dispatched the Dolsan Police Substation coastal rescue boat and arrived at the scene within 8 minutes of the report, found the drowning person Mr. A, and a police officer jumped into the sea and safely rescued him.


At the time of rescue, Mr. A was holding onto a rope connected to the land and was enduring; aside from dizziness, there were no other health issues, and he was handed over to the 119 emergency medical team.


It is believed that Mr. A slipped and fell into the sea while going down the slipway to fill seawater into a fish container during fishing with an acquaintance.


A Yeosu Maritime Police official said, "The bottom of the slipway at ports and harbors can be slippery due to seaweed and other factors, which can cause falls into the sea, so special caution is required from leisure visitors."
