[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] CJ Foodville's Tous Les Jours announced on the 23rd that it will increase recycling rates by introducing embossed ice beverage cups.
According to Tous Les Jours, the embossed ice cups are made by marking the brand in an embossed manner without printing, making them 100% recyclable. Existing ice cups faced difficulties in recycling because the brand name was printed on plastic cups using dye. Tous Les Jours plans to significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by over 1,300 Tous Les Jours stores nationwide by introducing non-printed embossed ice cups in the summer season, when the use of ice beverages surges.
Tous Les Jours also launched hydrating smoothies to cool down the summer heat. The three types include ‘Watermelon Smoothie’, made by juicing watermelon; ‘Melon Smoothie’, filled with fruit juice made by blending melon; and ‘Peach Smoothie’, which includes refreshing Cheondo peach.
They also introduced decaffeinated coffee that can be enjoyed cool without caffeine burden even during tropical nights. It is a cold brew extracted from 100% Colombian single origin beans, characterized by its smooth and nutty flavor. Customers can choose the coffee beans when ordering cold brew beverages. The applicable products are three types: ‘Decaffeinated Cold Brew’, ‘Decaffeinated Cold Brew Latte’, and ‘Decaffeinated Cold Brew Condensed Milk Latte’.
A CJ Foodville official said, “The annual domestic use of disposable plastic cups exceeds 3.3 billion, but only about 5% of them are recycled, which is a serious level. This led us to introduce non-printed embossed ice cups,” adding, “We hope customers enjoy Tous Les Jours’ ice beverages while participating in value activities for the planet.”
