On this day, the newly appointed Police Chief Kim Byung-soo emphasized fair and dignified law enforcement in his inaugural speech.
Chief Kim said, "An accident is anything that infringes on life, body, or property," and added, "Serving so that the people can enjoy a happy life without accidents is the greatest and most noble role, duty, and mission of the police."
He stated, "The police must be able to protect themselves safely and live happily while safeguarding the people's accident-free lives," and added, "There must be no negligence in protecting the freedoms and rights that the people should enjoy, and we must firmly fulfill our duty to maintain social peace and order."
He also urged, "We are very precious to the people who have no money, no power, and no backing," and said, "Let us treat everyone correctly without bias toward any side."
Chief Kim promised to be faithful to the profession of a police officer rather than the position of chief, and to show consideration, kindness, and humility first.
"I will watch in advance to prevent social repercussions caused by the police, and when mistakes occur, I will do my best to manage them rather than getting angry," he said, adding, "I will not treat anyone carelessly, and I will support and encourage all functions and duties while protecting them from criticism and the like."
He also said he would learn about rapidly changing social phenomena and security environments such as artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, crowdfunding, synthetic biology, metaverse, and smart cities.
Chief Kim Byung-soo said, "At a time when we face rapid changes in the security system, I will do my best to find ways to raise our capabilities to the next level and apply them on the ground," and added, "I will strive to increase the number of people who respect the dedication of the police."
Graduated from the 5th class of the Korean National Police University, Chief Kim has served as head of the Security and Traffic Division of Daegu Police Agency, chief of Changwon Jungbu Police Station, chief of Seoul Songpa Police Station, and chief of Daegu Police Agency.
