Introduction to the Enactment of the 'Sicheonggak Media Service Act' and Others
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] On the 22nd, Ahn Hyunghwan, Vice Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, held a meeting with Jason Oxman, President of the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI).
The meeting was arranged at the request of ITI and discussed global issues in the broadcasting and telecommunications sector, including 'online platform and OTT policy directions.'
ITI is an international IT industry association headquartered in the United States, with major IT companies such as Apple, IBM, and Microsoft as its members.
Vice Chairman Ahn introduced key policies of the Korea Communications Commission, saying, “As broadcasting and telecommunications services expand beyond borders worldwide, we expect ITI, as an international industry association, to serve as a bridge,” and highlighted ▲the establishment of user protection measures for online platforms centered on self-regulation ▲the enactment of the 'Audiovisual Media Services Act' encompassing new types of media services.
Jason Oxman, ITI President, stated, “Korea is a country with the potential to become an IT hub in the Indo-Pacific region and globally,” and added, “We hope various opportunities will be created to provide input on broadcasting and telecommunications issues as policy stakeholders.”
Vice Chairman Ahn Hyunghwan and ITI President Jason Oxman pledged to continue cooperation between the two organizations for the development of broadcasting and telecommunications.
