Hampyeong-gun Promotes 'Domestic Kimchi Consumption Promotion Campaign'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong County is promoting a campaign to revitalize the consumption of domestically produced kimchi.

On the 22nd, Hampyeong County, Jeollanam-do announced that it plans to designate the first and third Fridays of every month as ‘Days to Use Restaurants Serving Domestically Produced Kimchi’ and conduct a promotional campaign until the end of July.

This campaign was prepared to encourage the consumption of domestically produced kimchi amid growing consumer distrust due to controversies such as the ‘naked pickling’ scandal involving Chinese kimchi and the detection of food poisoning bacteria.

The county has established the ‘Plan for Promoting the Consumption of Domestically Produced Kimchi’ and intends to create an atmosphere that promotes the consumption of domestic kimchi among consumers and general restaurants.

The main contents include ▲ a ‘Domestically Produced Kimchi Consumption Promotion Campaign’ involving all citizens, public institutions, and social organizations ▲ designation of the first and third Fridays of every month as ‘Days to Use Restaurants Serving Domestically Produced Kimchi’ ▲ and a ‘Certification Event for Using Designated Restaurants Serving Domestically Produced Kimchi’ at Namdo Market.

In addition, the county supports 250,000 KRW per business for purchasing ingredients such as napa cabbage, red pepper powder, and sun-dried salt for restaurants certified under the voluntary labeling system for domestically produced kimchi.

A county official said, “We ask for the active participation of all citizens in the campaign to promote the consumption of domestically produced kimchi.”
