[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jin-Hyung Park] Im Yong-hwan (58, Police Commissioner), the 19th newly appointed Chief of Gwangju Police Agency, held an inauguration ceremony on the 22nd and officially began his duties.
In his inaugural speech, Chief Im emphasized, "It is time to present policing strategies and visions to proactively respond to the rapidly changing future security environment."
He explained, "With the launch of the National Investigation Headquarters and the introduction of the autonomous police system, which marked the second founding of the police, we also face the task of enhancing trust as the full subject of investigations and as a law enforcement agency."
Chief Im presented ▲restoring trust ▲ensuring safety ▲fair investigations ▲and fostering a culture of respect in the workplace as core tasks.
He also stressed that communication, cooperation, and trust must be the foundation to achieve these goals.
Chief Im said, "This does not mean trying something new, but returning to the basic principles and fulfilling our mission as police officers."
He stated, "We must trust each other, unite our hearts, create the safest Gwangju, and become a police force respected and loved by the citizens."
After the inauguration ceremony, he will have lunch with the command staff, then proceed with a schedule including visiting the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery, the Police Memorial Tower, and the press room.
Chief Im is from Goesan, Chungbuk, and entered the police force in 1987 as a graduate of the 3rd class of the Korean National Police University.
He graduated from Cheongju Shinhung High School and the Police University Department of Law, earned a master's degree in Public Administration from Korea University Graduate School of Policy Science, and received a doctorate in Public Administration from Hansung University Graduate School.
He has served as the Chief of Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul, Director of the Police Agency's Community Safety Division, Chief of Cheongju Heungdeok Police Station in Chungbuk, Head of the Police University Faculty, Director of the Counterterrorism Center Situation Room under the Prime Minister's Office, Deputy Commissioner of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Chief of Chungbuk Police Agency, and Director of the Foreign Affairs Bureau of the Police Agency.
