[Profile] Newly Appointed Eom Dong-hwan as Head of Defense Acquisition Program Administration

[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] On the 22nd, President Yoon Seok-yeol appointed Eom Dong-hwan, Director of the Defense Industry Technology Support Center at the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) (age 57, Korea Military Academy Class 44), as the new Administrator of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA).

The new Administrator Eom previously served as the tank project team leader at DAPA and worked as a commissioned researcher at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials before moving to the Agency for Defense Development (ADD).

Last year, Director Eom led a laser equipment development project capable of tracking and monitoring satellites and space objects over the Korean Peninsula. This technology calculates the round-trip time of lasers fired from the ground to track and predict the orbits of satellites and space objects.

In 2014, while serving as the tank project team leader at DAPA, he also led the development project of the transmission for the domestically produced powerpack of the K2 tank. At that time, Director Eom announced that from the second batch production of the K2 tank (106 units), domestically produced engines and transmissions would be installed.
