[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The prosecution has once again requested a two-year prison sentence for a woman in her 20s who was initially tried for repeatedly hitting a man in his 60s on the head with a cellphone on Seoul Subway Line 9 train, and was additionally indicted for another assault charge.

Judge Jeon Beom-sik of the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 8 held a trial session at 10 a.m. on the 22nd for A (27), who was detained and indicted on charges including special injury, assault, and insult.

The trial for A, who was indicted for hitting the head of a man in his 60s, B, multiple times with a cellphone after a dispute on the Line 9 subway heading to Gayang Station on March 16, was originally scheduled for a first trial verdict on the 8th.

However, the trial resumed that day as the prosecution added charges related to a past assault committed by A.

According to the prosecution’s indictment revealed that day, A is accused of having a dispute with another victim, C, on Subway Line 2 in the past, pouring a beverage on C, and assaulting C multiple times with hands and feet.

The prosecution requested the court, stating, "Despite carrying a dangerous object and causing injury to another person, no settlement has been reached yet," and asked for a two-year prison sentence for the defendant. This is the same sentence request as at the sentencing hearing held on the 25th of last month.

In the final argument, A’s defense attorney said, "The defendant admits all the crimes and is reflecting on them," and added, "Regarding the additionally indicted case, the victim first made an obscene finger gesture, which escalated into assault, and since contact with the victim has not been possible, no settlement has been reached. Please take these circumstances into consideration."

A also pleaded for leniency, saying, "I deeply regret and reflect on my wrongful actions," but added, "It was a difficult time mentally as I was hurt by many people throughout my life."

The verdict for A is scheduled to be announced at 2:30 p.m. on the 6th of next month.
