[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of domestic COVID-19 confirmed cases has remained below 10,000 for the 13th consecutive day, maintaining a downward trend.


According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 22nd, as of midnight, 8,992 new COVID-19 cases were reported, including 102 cases from overseas arrivals. The total cumulative confirmed cases reached 18,298,341.


The number of new cases on this day decreased by 436 compared to 9,428 cases on the 15th, a week ago, and by 318 compared to the previous day. Daily new cases have been below 10,000 for 13 consecutive days since the 10th. According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the weekly number of confirmed cases has decreased for 13 consecutive weeks, dropping to an average of 7,491 cases per day last week.


The number of critically ill patients hospitalized is 64, remaining in the 60s for the second consecutive day, down by 4 from the previous day. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 5.5%, with 5.1% in the metropolitan area and 6.6% in non-metropolitan areas.


The number of new COVID-19 deaths was 11, including 5 people aged 80 and above, 4 people in their 70s, and 2 people in their 60s. The cumulative death toll is 24,474, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.


The number of newly added home treatment cases the previous day was 8,658, with a total of 40,019 patients currently under home treatment. Among them, 1,870 patients are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.
