[Seoul District News] Nowon-gu Installs 35 Various Crescent and New Moon-Shaped Landscape Lights and 2 Light Benches; 553 LED Security Lights Installed on Suraksan and Bulamsan Trails through 'Security Light Improvement Project'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has completed the installation of landscape lighting and the improvement of security lights along the walking trails to create a safe and enjoyable pedestrian environment.
First, the “Bright Street with a Story” project was carried out by installing moon-shaped landscape lights along the walking trail by the Uicheon Stream in Wolgye 1-dong.
The project site is the deck path along Uicheon Stream, stretching from Seokgye Cultural Park to Dongshin Villa in Wolgye 1-dong. Although residents frequently visit this area for evening exercise and walks, the path was inconvenient to use due to poor lighting.
Accordingly, the district adopted the “Bright Street with a Story” project proposed by the Wolgye 1-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee as part of the 2022 residents’ autonomous budget project and began efforts to create a pleasant pedestrian environment. After meetings to gather residents’ opinions and design reviews, construction started in May.
Reflecting residents’ wishes to make the Uicheon Stream path a symbolic street representing the village, instead of simple street lamps, 35 moon-shaped landscape lights symbolizing Wolgye-dong (月溪洞) were installed along the 350-meter deck path.
The landscape lights feature various moon phases, from crescent to waning moon, expressing the waxing and waning of the moon to provide visual enjoyment for pedestrians. At the end of the deck path, two crescent moon-shaped light benches were additionally installed to create resting spots where residents can take a break.
Through this project, the now brightly lit Uicheon Stream path will offer residents not only a safe walking environment but also small visual attractions, becoming a new landmark of Wolgye-dong.
Along with this, the district also carried out a “Security Light Improvement Project” on the frequently visited walking trails of Bulamsan and Suraksan Mountains.
The district replaced a total of 227 old security lights with LED security lights along Bulamsan walking trails including Jeongamsa-gil, Hakdoam-gil, Baeksemun, and Wide Yard areas, and is currently installing a total of 326 security lights along Suraksan walking trails including Surakgol, Nowongol, Hakrimsa-gil, and Dongmakgol areas.
The district expects this project to resolve residents’ inconveniences caused by frequent security light failures and to prevent forest fires and safety accidents caused by electrical leakage in advance.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “We are sequentially carrying out security light improvement works starting from walking trails frequently used by residents and areas with many complaints,” and added, “We will continue to promote various projects to create a bright and enjoyable pedestrian environment.”
