Sancheong-gun Operates 'Safety Guardians' for Community Safety

Held Education and Meeting to Eradicate 7 Major Safety Neglect Practices

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 21st that it held an education and discussion meeting for ‘Safety Guardians’ who play the role of safety keepers.

About 40 people, including Safety Guardians and responsible public officials, attended the meeting held in the county government meeting room that day.

The education focused on eradicating safety negligence through recent safety accident cases such as the apartment collapse disaster in Gwangju.

It was conducted mainly on how to use the ‘Safety Report’ app for preventing safety accidents by eliminating the practice of ignoring safety regulations and activating the reporting of hazardous elements around daily life, as well as examples of daily Safety Guardian activities.

At the meeting, seven major tasks to eradicate the practice of ignoring safety and seasonal hazardous elements around daily life were selected.

Following this, various discussions were held monthly or seasonally according to the selected activity themes, including reporting risk factors and discovering improvement tasks.

By diversifying channels for submitting opinions such as the Safety Report mobile app, phone, and fax, the plan is to reflect the experiences and information closely related to residents’ lives in safety policies.

Since its launch in May 2018, 41 Sancheong-gun Safety Guardians are currently active. They lead community safety culture movements by participating in public-private joint safety inspections and campaigns conducted by Sancheong-gun.

A county official explained, “As the causes and damages of disasters due to climate change become more complex, hazardous factors in daily life are also increasing,” adding, “The activities of Safety Guardians are becoming increasingly important because they can prevent risks that local residents encounter in their daily lives.”
