[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will open five water play areas in parks from the 25th to help residents enjoy a cool summer.
The water play areas in the parks are located close to residents' homes and are free of charge, making them popular among locals. The district had prepared water play facilities so that residents could enjoy water play anytime in neighborhood parks, but they were unable to open for two years due to COVID-19. They plan to reopen in June this year.
The five water play areas opening this time are located in the following parks: ▲Gakseum (555 Wolgye 2-dong) ▲Gongneung-dong (63 Gongneung 2-dong) ▲Deulgukhwa (501 Junggye 2,3-dong) ▲Neutiul (741 Sanggye 6,7-dong) ▲Hannae (1-1 Wolgye 3-dong).
These water play areas will operate for 65 days from June 25 to August 28. However, Gakseum Children's Park will operate for only one month during July and August after consultation with residents of the surrounding complexes.
The water play areas have shallow depths, making them safe for children from toddlers to lower elementary school grades. Another advantage is that visitors can enjoy water play in comfortable clothing without needing to prepare separate swimwear. Although these are neighborhood water play areas, the district has equipped them with convenience facilities such as changing rooms, showers, and shoe lockers to ensure comfortable use without inconvenience to residents.
The water play areas operate in cycles of 40 to 50 minutes of operation followed by 10 to 20 minutes of rest to maintain children's safety, including body temperature, and a clean environment.
Except for Gongneung-dong, the four water play areas operate four times on weekdays from 12:00 PM to 3:40 PM and five times on weekends from 12:00 PM to 4:40 PM. The Gongneung-dong water play area operates from 12:00 PM to 3:50 PM on weekdays and from 12:00 PM to 4:50 PM on weekends. However, all water play areas will suspend operation during rain and operate flexibly depending on weather conditions.
For safe water play, 2 to 3 safety personnel are assigned to each water play area. Maintenance workers are also separately hired to operate and maintain clean and pleasant water play areas. Water quality tests will be conducted twice a month to check turbidity, coliform bacteria, and free residual chlorine levels.
Additionally, daily water replacement and cleaning of the pools are carried out to ensure hygiene management.
Nine ground fountains started operating early in May. Ground fountains installed in popular areas such as Danghyeoncheon and Nabi Garden are all contact-type, allowing children to run into the fountains and cool off freely. Details such as the locations and operating hours of the ground fountains can be found on the district office website.
Meanwhile, the Danghyeoncheon music fountain located in front of the Nowon Mathematics Culture Center is also receiving great responses from residents. The water jets reach up to 25 meters high, accompanied by exciting music and video art projected on a water screen, captivating residents' attention. The Danghyeoncheon music fountain operates until the end of October, running for 20 minutes daily from Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "Many people were disappointed that the water play areas could not operate for two years due to COVID-19. I hope children on vacation will overcome the heat by playing excitedly and safely at water play areas near their homes."
Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) will operate the ‘June Circulating Toy Arrival Day’ at the Yongsan-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center on the 29th.
‘Circulating Toy Arrival Day’ is a day when repaired toys are distributed free of charge to families with infants and toddlers in the area.
Ahead of the ‘June Circulating Toy Arrival Day,’ the district will accept advance applications from the 22nd. Families wishing to use the service can apply through the Childcare Comprehensive Support Center website - Center Use Application - Parent Education and Events - Calendar.
The recruitment quota is 50 families with 20 on the waiting list. Up to two toys will be distributed per family, and they must be picked up on-site at 4 PM on the 29th.
Choi Kyung-sun, Director of the Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, said, "The Toy Dock is the final resting place for toys in the region. Using circulating toys will provide children with an opportunity to make environmental protection and resource circulation a part of their daily lives."
On May 20, the Childcare Comprehensive Support Center held an opening ceremony for the ‘Toy Dock Branch No. 2’ in collaboration with the Korea Childcare Promotion Institute and Green Move Workshop, distributing 100 circulating toys to 50 parents attending the event.
The Childcare Comprehensive Support Center distributes circulating toys repaired by Green Move Workshop and collected by the Korea Childcare Promotion Institute free of charge to families with infants and toddlers in the area every month. In the second half of the year, they plan to hold toy donation days and experiential events to raise awareness of environmental protection and sharing.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "The Childcare Comprehensive Support Center will become a community win-win platform that creates value beyond recycling."
The Childcare Comprehensive Support Center is a demand-oriented customized childcare service institution located on the 2nd floor of the main building of Dream Tree Complex (329 Baekbeom-ro). It promotes projects targeting local daycare centers and families with infants and toddlers and operates infant experience rooms and communal childcare rooms.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) announced that the Chang-dong Station shopping district was finally selected on May 27 for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' ‘2022 Small Business Smart Store Technology Dissemination Project’ competition.
The ‘Smart Store Technology Dissemination’ project aims to enhance the competitiveness of small business owners by applying smart technologies such as IoT, VR, and AR to small business sites. Dobong-gu secured a total budget of 70 million KRW combining national and local funds by the end of the year and plans to secure additional project funds through supplementary budgets for the smart store technology dissemination project.
With this selection, about 30 stores belonging to the Chang-dong Station Merchants Association participating in the project will receive up to 6 million KRW per standard store, including the national subsidy limit of 5 million KRW and local funds (50% of the supply price excluding national funds). The support funds will be used to introduce smart devices such as kiosks, tablet table orders, serving robots, QR code and app-based smart order technologies.
Meanwhile, Dobong-gu has been operating the public-private engineering joint ‘Chang-dong Cleaners (clean earth, cleaners)’ since May 2022 to revitalize the existing commercial area around Chang-dong Station and improve the pedestrian environment.
The ‘Chang-dong Cleaners,’ which includes the Chang-dong Station Merchants Association, Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation, Hana Bank, Duksung Women's University Campus Town Creation Team, and Seoul 50 Plus Foundation Northern Campus, operates six times annually. The first Chang-dong Cleaners event (May 18, 2022) was held around Duksung Women's University during its festival, and the second event (June 9, 2022) improved the environment around the east side of the existing commercial area near Chang-dong Station.
Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "We will do our best to lay the foundation so that the Chang-dong Station area can establish itself as Dobong-gu's representative commercial district, linked with the upcoming Seoul Arena, Seed Cube Chang-dong, Seoul Robot Artificial Intelligence Science Museum, and Seoul Photo Museum, which are part of the Chang-dong new economic center project."
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hoon) announced that it will newly install five unmanned illegal parking enforcement cameras (CCTV) to establish proper parking order and create safe roads.
Considering the number of illegal parking violations and school zone areas around schools, the cameras will be installed at five locations: ▲In front of Gangdong Riverst 8 Complex (Arisu-ro 93na-gil) ▲In front of the main gate of Raemian Gangdong Palace (Cheonho-daero 1077) ▲In front of the north gate of Godeok I-Park (Dongnam-ro 81-gil 50) ▲Myeongil Elementary School (Godeok-ro 38-gil 8) ▲Gangbit Elementary School (Arisu-ro 93da-gil 1).
The district expects various effects such as securing vehicle operation safety by suppressing habitual illegal parking through the installation of unmanned illegal parking enforcement cameras, resolving frequent complaints about dangers caused by illegally parked vehicles during U-turns, and restoring road functions by alleviating traffic congestion in habitual illegal parking areas.
In particular, the installation mainly in school zones around schools according to the recently revised Road Traffic Act (known as the ‘Min-sik Act’) is expected to greatly contribute to securing children's pedestrian safety.
The installation of unmanned illegal parking enforcement cameras is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, with about a month of resident publicity and pilot operation planned from July.
Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "Through this project to install unmanned illegal parking enforcement cameras (CCTV), we will strengthen the system for constant action against illegally parked vehicles and do our best to create safe roads. We ask for active participation to establish proper parking order."
