Join by Posting Proof on Instagram or Participating via the Seoul Environmental Education Portal
[Asia Economy, Reporter Lim Cheolyoung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on June 21 that it has launched the "Zero Seoul Challenge," an online citizen participation event aimed at promoting a zero-waste lifestyle and reducing the use of disposable products in daily life.
The "Zero Seoul Challenge" is a citizen participation event organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to minimize environmental issues, with this round focusing on "reducing disposable products." The city plans to continue hosting citizen participation events on various topics in the future, such as reducing food waste and lowering greenhouse gas emissions, to help citizens easily practice zero waste in their daily lives.
To participate, citizens can take a photo using reusable items such as reusable cups, containers, or eco-bags and post it on their personal Instagram accounts with the required hashtag (#ZeroSeoulChallenge) as proof. Participation is also possible through the "Seoul-eun Gamthane" section on the Seoul Environmental Education Portal. The event will run for about six weeks until July 31, and to encourage broader participation, approximately 400 participants will be selected by lottery to receive prizes.
Meanwhile, companies that are part of the "Zero Seoul Action Group," a public-private partnership network for climate crisis response launched by the city on June 9, will also participate in the "Zero Seoul Challenge." These companies will promote the event through their internal networks and encourage employees to reduce their use of disposable products. Partners include Golfzon, Daesang Corporation, LocknLock, BYN Black Yak, Seoul YMCA, SK Telecom, Woori Bank, and KORAIL Retail.
Since June 13, the city has been actively advancing the "Zero Waste Seoul" initiative, including recruiting 95 locations to operate "Zero Markets" that minimize the use of disposable packaging. Through the "Zero Seoul Challenge," the city expects to further encourage citizens to practice zero waste in their daily lives, creating a synergistic effect in addressing the problem of single-use plastics.
Yoo Yeonsik, Director of the Climate and Environment Headquarters, stated, "Zero waste is a way to protect the environment through small actions in daily life. The Seoul Metropolitan Government will continue to run campaigns on various topics so that everyone, including citizens and businesses, can share the value of practicing zero waste."
