Gwangju City Council Points Out Inadequate Procedures for All Residents of 'Gwangju Huimangwon' Admission

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Environment and Welfare Committee of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Chairperson Shin Sujeong) pointed out the inadequacy of the transfer procedures for all residents of Hopewon during the review process of the 'Consent for Re-entrusting the Operation of Gwangju Hopewon.'

Since March last year, Hopewon has transferred 28 residents according to their individual characteristics, and is currently promoting the transfer of an additional 10 residents.

The committee members stated, “So far, the transfer process has only determined the admission and discharge of residents through the admission and discharge review committee of Dong-gu Office,” and pointed out that the criteria and procedures for selecting the facilities to which residents are transferred are insufficient. They emphasized the need to prepare improvement measures to ensure that the designation of transfer facilities is transparent and fair in the future.

They also said, “The corporation currently operating Hopewon is pushing for the transfer as the consignment period is about to end,” and demanded, “The institution that will operate the consignment in the future should take the lead in the transfer, so the ongoing transfer process should be stopped.”

Furthermore, they added, “Please select a trustee with expertise and credibility to operate Hopewon well,” and requested, “When transferring residents in the future, please improve the criteria and procedures so that residents can be transferred to suitable and desired places from their perspective.”
