[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, demanded an "apology" from the Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party of Korea regarding the killing of the West Sea government official, which was previously reported as a defection to North Korea.

Quoting a passage from a letter sent by the West Sea official's son to President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 17th, Kwon said, "The son who lost his father shouted to the world on his twentieth birthday that his father was not a 'defector.' The Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party should first apologize in the face of the son's outcry."

He criticized, "Democratic Party emergency committee chairman Woo Sang-ho said that people's livelihood is more important than fact-finding," adding, "It was the Democratic Party that falsely accused the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries official of defecting to North Korea, and it is also the Democratic Party that ruined people's livelihood. Is the Democratic Party now trying to cover its sins with more sins?"

Kwon referred to the fact revealed by Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Geon-young that there was evidence to judge the West Sea official as a defector, saying, "If so, disclose the evidence," and "The burden of proof lies with the claimant." He criticized lawmaker Yoon, who demanded evidence that it was not a defection, as "anti-intellectual violence reminiscent of medieval witch hunts."

He said, "The Democratic Party constantly emphasizes justice and human rights, but there are exactly two exceptions: one is the Democratic Party itself, and the other is North Korea. It goes beyond double standards to 'North Korea double standards.'"

Kwon added, "There are boundaries in politics," and said, "Justice, human rights, and life are universal values. When even these are weighed selectively, politics becomes shabby in an instant."
