A total of 14 parking spaces created in 5 shared parking areas... Support provided to project participants including IoT parking sensors, CCTV, parking space painting, and shared parking signage installation, actively recruiting
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is attracting attention with a unique policy that creates parking spaces in vacant areas of residential neighborhoods and utilizes them as shared parking lots.
These seemingly ordinary vacant spaces in residential areas have been transformed into shared parking lots prepared by homeowners with support from the district. Anyone can freely use them by paying parking fees according to the usage time.
The shared parking lots operate by sending real-time notification messages to homeowners when external vehicles park, through IoT parking sensors installed on the parking space floors. Homeowners can monitor the parking lot usage via CCTV.
In particular, even without a parking lot manager, users (external vehicles) can conveniently reserve and pay for parking through mobile devices.
Additionally, homeowners who have been troubled by unauthorized parking of external vehicles in vacant parking spaces can participate in the shared parking project to earn extra income and contribute to alleviating nearby parking difficulties through sharing their parking lots.
Focusing on the high sharing potential in newly built one-room apartments with two or more parking spaces, the district has expanded the installation targets of shared parking lots to include not only general houses but also multi-family, multi-household, and newly built one-room apartments, creating a total of 14 spaces in 5 locations so far.
Considering that the cost of creating one parking space reaches 200 million KRW, the shared parking lot creation project has shown truly remarkable effects, and the district plans to actively promote it again this year.
Participants (homeowners) in the shared parking lot creation project are supported with IoT parking sensors, CCTV, parking space painting, and installation of shared parking signage. Those interested can visit or call the Traffic Guidance Division of Seongdong-gu Office to apply.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “The active participation of homeowners who provide parking spaces for external vehicles to park temporarily can greatly contribute to solving parking difficulties,” and added, “We will continue to make active efforts to enhance residents’ convenience through various parking lot creation projects.”
