A New Domestic Record for the 'Most Blood Donations' in the Shortest Time by a Single Institution Emerges The Korea Records Institute is awarding Shincheonji Church of Jesus with two official certificates for the shortest period and the highest number of blood donations and blood donation certificate donations by a single organization.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A new domestic blood donation record set by a single organization in the shortest period has been announced. This record covers two categories: the highest number of blood donations and the highest number of blood donation certificate donations.

The Korea Records Institute announced on the 18th that the Shincheonji Church of Jesus set records for the highest number of participants and the highest number of blood donation certificate donations in the shortest period through their group blood donation campaign this year.

The Korea Records Institute officially certified this new domestic record for the church on the 16th.

From April 18 to May 4, over 17 days, a total of 18,819 people participated in the group blood donation organized by the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, donating a total of 32,324 blood donation certificates.

This record was certified as the official highest record by the Korea Records Institute, and the church received a certificate of recognition.

For this certification, the Korea Records Institute received copies of blood donation certificates, participant lists, and donation certificates from the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, and after verification by the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, officially confirmed the highest record certification.

The nationwide group blood donation by the Shincheonji Church of Jesus was conducted on a national scale to alleviate the country's blood supply shortage caused by the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

The Korean Red Cross explained that the approximately 18,000 blood donations correspond to about 3.5 days’ worth of blood supply.

On the 9th of last month, the church delivered all blood donation certificates and donation rights, along with additional certificates collected by believers through their participation in blood donations, to the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross at the Seoul Southern Blood Center.

Recognized for its contribution during the blood supply shortage, this group blood donation received a commendation from the chairman of the Korean Red Cross at the ‘Blood Donor Day’ event, which was designated as the first national memorial day on the 14th.

A church official said, “It is meaningful to remember the spirit of love and service shown by believers nationwide who stepped up to resolve the national blood supply shortage. Above all, it was the noble hearts of the believers sharing life that made the record for the highest number of blood donations in the shortest period possible. We will continue to practice Jesus’ love wherever it is needed.”

Previously, during the early stages of COVID-19 in 2020 when vaccines and treatments were unavailable, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus participated in plasma donations for the development of COVID-19 treatments three times at the request of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, with a total of about 6,000 participants.
