[Mokpo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] The cultural city of Jeonnam Mokpo has resumed performances by the municipal art troupe to quench the thirst for offline performances that had been restricted due to COVID-19.

According to the city on the 17th, the Mokpo Municipal Symphony Orchestra and the Municipal Choir will hold regular performances at 7:30 PM on the 22nd and 23rd respectively at the Mokpo Culture and Arts Center.

First, the 125th regular concert of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra on the 22nd will begin with Dvo??k's Cello Concerto featuring cellist Shim Junho.

Shim Junho received high praise from Natalia Gutman, the chair judge at the 40th Jeunesses Musicales International Competition in 2010, as "a true musician who plays with a cool head and a warm heart," becoming the first Korean and unanimous winner of the judges.

He studied under Truls Mørk and Jian Wang at the Norwegian Academy of Music and was the first Korean artist selected by the world’s top instrument brand Larsen Strings.

The concert will conclude with Rimsky-Korsakov's representative piece "Scheherazade." Scheherazade is the heroine of Arabian Nights, boasting an exotic and sensual Oriental atmosphere and a deeply appealing melody.

On the 23rd, the Municipal Choir will hold its 76th regular concert. This concert, in honor of the Month of Patriots and Veterans, expresses the determination and resolution to transform times of suffering into joy and to protect the land and cultural arts heritage passed down by ancestors to create a wonderful future.

The concert will feature the lovely Philippine folk song Rosas Pandan, African American spirituals, Spanish dances, and more. Additionally, Korea’s top saxophonist Professor Choi Boyoon will perform two pieces by Kenny G, and Korea’s representative composer Woo Hyowon’s "Ah! Republic of Korea" will be performed in collaboration with timpani, assorted drums, and piano.

The city is operating this municipal art troupe performance with free admission for all seats as a way to gather the joy of the post-COVID era and overcome difficult times.
