Martial Arts, 'NextRise 2022, Seoul' Held... Over 2,000 Investment Consultations At 'NextRise 2022, Seoul,' jointly hosted by the Korea International Trade Association and KDB Industrial Bank on the 16th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, Lee Gwan-seop, Vice Chairman of the Trade Association, is delivering the opening address.

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] ‘NextRise 2022, Seoul,’ jointly hosted by the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and KDB Industrial Bank, is being held over two days from the 16th to the 17th at COEX in Seoul.

On the 17th, KITA announced that the event features one-on-one business meetups between companies, conferences with domestic and international distinguished guests, an exhibition of innovative startup technologies, recruitment briefings by 60 unicorns and startups, tech workshops by Google and Adobe, and pitching events. Notably, 175 global major corporations and investors including Volkswagen, Pepsi, Airbus, and Meta participated in the one-on-one business meetups, conducting over 2,000 business cooperation and investment consultations with about 1,000 startups.

KITA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for promoting the UK Smart City Testbed with Seoul Business Agency, London Legacy Development Corporation, and UK Catapult. Starting from the second half of this year, they agreed to cooperate on supporting local demonstrations for 10 startups in the UK, dispatching startup delegations, and holding local roadshows.

The opening ceremony held the previous day was attended by Lee Kwan-seop, Vice Chairman of KITA; Kang Seok-hoon, Chairman of KDB Industrial Bank; Kim So-young, Vice Chairperson of the Financial Services Commission; Lee Seung-gun, CEO of Viva Republica; and Jang Se-young, CEO of DeepBrain AI. In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman Lee said, “The global innovation ecosystem is now organically connecting and expanding beyond regional boundaries, and in the industrial and business sectors, innovative technologies are breaking down boundaries between industries and determining corporate survival. If we do not take a more proactive lead in innovation, we risk missing greater opportunities due to fear of small risks.”

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, KITA Chairman Koo Ja-yeol, KDB Industrial Bank Chairman Kang Seok-hoon, and Minister of SMEs and Startups Lee Young are scheduled to visit the venue and hold a meeting with about 10 startup representatives. Jang Seok-min, Head of KITA’s Digital Innovation Division, said, “Based on NextRise, we will expand various support projects for the global scale-up of domestic startups, including overseas demonstrations and open innovation.”
