[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will operate the ‘National Request Real-Name System’ year-round to enhance the transparency and accountability of policies.
The National Request Real-Name System is a system where, upon citizens' requests regarding major policies or large-scale budget projects they want to know about, administrative agencies disclose the progress status and the real names of the responsible officials. It was created to reflect public demand in the existing Policy Real-Name System.
The application targets include ▲ construction or projects with a budget of 1 billion KRW or more ▲ service projects worth 50 million KRW or more ▲ enactment, revision, or abolition of autonomous regulations ▲ pledge projects, mid- to long-term major district projects, major external cooperation projects requiring record preservation, etc.
Applications can be submitted by downloading the application form from the Geumcheon-gu Office website under the ‘Open Administration ? Administrative Information ? Policy Real-Name System’ menu, filling it out, and sending it via email or mail, or by visiting the Planning and Budget Division at the district office.
The requested projects will be finally selected through deliberation and resolution by the Geumcheon-gu Policy Real-Name System Deliberation Committee, and the selected projects will be disclosed on the Geumcheon-gu Office website and the Information Disclosure Portal.
Geumcheon-gu selected and disclosed 29 projects in 2020 and 41 projects in 2021 as priority management targets under the Policy Real-Name System. This year, it plans to actively discover related projects such as major policies of the 8th elected mayor and new government national tasks to communicate with residents.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We hope for much interest and participation in the ‘National Request Real-Name System’ to satisfy residents’ right to know and to secure policy accountability and transparency.”
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced on the 17th that it has installed smart poles with electric vehicle charging functions at two locations: Muk-dong (189-11) and Junghwa-dong (50-16).
Smart poles are urban infrastructure facilities that add smart functions such as Internet of Things (IoT), public Wi-Fi, security CCTV, and electric vehicle charging to basic road facilities like streetlights and security lights.
The district was selected for a pilot project promoted by Seoul City and proceeded with the electric vehicle charging smart pole installation project, allowing residents to use the charging function starting from the 13th of this month.
The newly installed ‘Electric Vehicle Charging Smart Poles’ are equipped with rapid charging functions that complete charging within one hour on streetlight poles along the roadside. They support two charging methods, DC Combo and CHAdeMO, enabling most electric vehicle models to use the charging function.
The district plans to actively utilize the functions of the installed smart poles to establish an eco-friendly urban infrastructure and ensure the safety of residents.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We integrated various road facilities that were disorderly installed in narrow spaces, damaging the cityscape and causing inconvenience to pedestrians, into a single smart pole. We will continue to create a smart city that provides residents with a safe and pleasant urban environment and services.”
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) will provide four types of safety equipment to prevent residential intrusion for stalking crime victims or residents at risk of such crimes.
This project was prepared to provide practical help in alleviating anxiety for households affected by stalking and other new types of gender violence such as dating violence by supporting the installation of safety equipment including smart doorbells, home CCTV, and door opening sensors.
According to Gwangjin Police Station, since the enforcement of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes in October last year until April 2022, there were a total of 129 reported stalking crime cases, of which 86 cases (67%) were accepted as incidents, and 15% of the victims were male.
Reflecting this, victims or those at risk of stalking and other gender violence are eligible for support under this project regardless of gender.
The district plans to support safety equipment for 50 rental households who have lived in Gwangjin-gu for more than one year and have been recommended by Gwangjin Police Station as victims or at risk of stalking and other gender violence.
The safety equipment includes ▲ ‘Smart Doorbell’ that allows real-time monitoring of the front door via mobile phone ▲ ‘Home CCTV’ to check the home situation when away ▲ ‘Door Opening Sensor’ that sends a smartphone alert if the door is opened from outside during absence.
Additionally, recipients can choose one item from ▲ front door safety hook ▲ auxiliary window lock ▲ door lock film.
Previously, since last year, Gwangjin-gu has been supporting the ‘Safe Home Set for Single Women Households’ to create a safe living environment for single women households, and also provides the ‘Single Household Security Door Service’ for single-person households regardless of gender, legally defined single-parent households, and households composed only of women.
The ‘Safe Home Set’ targets single women households or legally defined single-parent families or female crime victims living in houses, villas, or officetels in Gwangjin-gu for more than one year under rental contracts. It provides three basic items: ▲ smart doorbell ▲ door opening sensor ▲ portable emergency bell, plus two additional items chosen from ▲ window lock ▲ front door safety hook ▲ door lock film ▲ self-defense spray.
The ‘Single Household Security Door Service’ targets single-person households regardless of gender, legally defined single-parent households, and households composed only of women residing in Gwangjin-gu. It provides free home security devices such as ▲ wireless front door CCTV ▲ intrusion detection sensor ▲ SOS emergency bell, and supports emergency dispatch services by police and security companies in case of danger.
A district official said, “We will do our best to create a tight social safety net so that all residents can live without fear of crime.”
