Jeonju City Hosts 10th Anniversary International Forum for UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy Designation


[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hanho] Jeonju City held the "K-Food Global Hub City Jeonju International Forum" on the 16th to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.


At the forum held at Jeonbuk National University Convention Center under the theme of "Sustainability of K-Food," Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su and domestic food experts announced Jeonju as the central city of K-Food through the declaration ceremony of Jeonju as a global hub city for K-Food.


In particular, the participants adopted a code of conduct for developing Jeonju as a global hub city for K-Food, including △ "Developing the value and diversity of K-Food into global cultural content" △ "Creating future food leading the global market by combining science and technology based on the tradition of K-Food" △ "Enhancing the brand value of K-Food and striving for sustainable growth of Jeonju as a global hub city for K-Food."


At the forum, Professor Cha Yeonsu of Jeonbuk National University and Professor Philip Calder of the University of Southampton, UK, gave keynote speeches on "The Past, Present, and Future of K-Food" and "Globalization Strategies of the Mediterranean Diet," respectively, suggesting directions for the future of K-Food.


Following the keynote speeches, 15 panelists including Dr. Kim Myung-sun from the Korea Food Research Institute, Professor Choi Hyun-wook of Jeonju University, Professor Kim Mina of Jeonbuk National University, and other renowned domestic and international professors, researchers, and industry representatives participated in breakout discussions divided into three sessions: △ Cultural value of K-Food △ Convergence and complex industries of K-Food and tourism △ The future of K-Food.


Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su emphasized, "Jeonju's advancement as a global food city beyond Korea was possible because of good ingredients and cooking methods, various food artisans, a long-standing food culture, and its history as a food capital," adding, "Based on Jeonju's brilliant food culture, we will take the lead in promoting the value, culture, and excellence of K-Food."
