Unlimit Launches Two Types of Plant-Based Rice Balls, Convenient Vegetarian Meals

Launched to Meet Growing Demand for Home Meal Replacements... Can Be Cooked Without Fire

Domestic alternative meat brand Unlimit announced on the 15th that it has launched two types of 'plant-based rice balls' (Bulgogi, Jeyuk) containing plant-based alternative meat as a filling ingredient.

An industry representative stated, "With the recent increase in single-person households and the spread of remote work, the demand for convenient meals is continuously growing. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), the domestic home meal replacement (HMR) market size was around 4.4 trillion KRW in 2021, and it is expected to surpass 5 trillion KRW this year." They added, "Unlimit introduced plant-based rice balls to expand the range of healthy and enjoyable vegetarian convenient meals in line with these trends."

The newly launched products include two types: △Bulgogi Rice Ball △Jeyuk Rice Ball, characterized by fried rice made with plant-based alternative meat and various ingredients to enhance flavor.

The 'Unlimit Plant-Based Bulgogi Rice Ball' is seasoned with a sweet and savory bulgogi sauce loved by all ages, combined with various vegetables such as onions, green onions, and carrots, and chewy plant-based minced meat to deliver a rich umami taste. The 'Unlimit Plant-Based Jeyuk Rice Ball' features the popular side dish Jeyukbokkeum made with plant-based protein, balancing richness and spiciness.

Unlimit rice balls are made by roasting fried rice cooked in a traditional cauldron over direct fire in an oven to achieve a crispy texture. Using individual quick freezing (IQF) technology, the taste and nutrition are preserved during cooking, and the products are individually packaged for convenient storage and portability, according to the company.

An Unlimit representative said, "Plant-based rice balls are a hearty meal that can be easily prepared without fire during the hot summer," and added, "We will continue to release plant-based alternative meat products that are easy and convenient to enjoy, expanding the vegetarian convenient meal market."
