"Prize Money of 6 Billion Won"... Netflix to Host the Real 'Ojingeo Game' Tournament

Online video service (OTT) Netflix is hosting a competition based on the Korean drama 'Squid Game' with a prize approaching 6 billion KRW. Anyone worldwide who can speak English is eligible to participate in the program.


On the 14th (local time), Netflix announced via Twitter that it will produce a reality program called 'Squid Game: The Challenge,' where participants compete for a prize of 4.56 million USD (approximately 5.88 billion KRW) by borrowing the story of the drama 'Squid Game.'


Netflix stated, "This competition will have the largest number of participants in the history of reality programs." Participants will compete in various games featured in the drama 'Squid Game' as well as new games added by Netflix to determine the ultimate winner. 'Squid Game: The Challenge' will be produced as a 10-episode series.


Brandon Riegg, Senior Vice President of Netflix, said, "The captivating story and iconic imagery created by director Hwang Dong-hyuk in 'Squid Game' have thrilled audiences worldwide," adding, "We will transform this fictional world into reality."


The drama 'Squid Game' depicts participants competing in survival games to win a prize of 45.6 billion KRW and became the highest-grossing title in Netflix history since its release last year. Netflix officially announced the production of 'Squid Game' Season 2 the day before.
