[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Cultural Heritage Administration will accept nominations for the 2022 Cultural Heritage Protection Merit Awards from June 15 to July 29 to recognize individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions in the preservation, research, and utilization of cultural heritage.
The "Cultural Heritage Protection Merit Awards" is a government award established to widely promote the importance of cultural heritage, spread a sense of appreciation, and enhance pride in our cultural assets. The highest honors in the cultural field, including the Order of Cultural Merit, the Presidential Citation, and the Prime Minister's Citation, will be awarded. As prizes, a reward of 10 million KRW is given for the Presidential Citation, and 3 million KRW each for the Prime Minister's Citation.
Through the Cultural Heritage Protection Merit Awards, the Cultural Heritage Administration plans to actively discover and honor hidden contributors who have quietly dedicated themselves to enhancing the future value of cultural heritage, including ▲those who contributed to sustainable preservation and transmission of cultural heritage ▲those who contributed to globalization of cultural heritage such as UNESCO World Heritage registration and management, thereby improving the national image ▲and those who have devoted themselves on the front lines of cultural heritage preservation and the promotion of citizens' cultural enjoyment rights.
Nominations will be accepted until July 29, and from September, a final winner will be selected through a review committee composed of external experts, verification of various restrictions and merits of candidates, and public verification of award candidates. The award ceremony will be held on December 8.
