[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] A golf ball developed with a new material by Kolon has set the world’s longest distance record.
On the 14th, Kolon announced at a certification ceremony held at the Kolon One & Only Tower in Magok, Seoul, that the golf ball Atomax, which applies the new material Atometal, was officially certified as the "world’s longest distance golf ball" by the World Record Committee (WRC), a global record certification organization.
The amorphous alloy Atometal powder developed by Kolon’s new material specialized affiliate Atometal Tech Korea was applied. It realized high elasticity and resilience inside the golf ball and added technology to evenly mix it in the mantle layer surrounding the core of the golf ball.
Atometal is a new material that drastically improves elasticity, hardness, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and soft magnetism by irregularly arranging the atomic structure of metals.
The WRC conducted certification tests under the same conditions using an approved robot swinger and recognized that the Atomax golf ball flew 13 to 18 meters (15 to 20 yards) farther compared to 13 types of golf balls from 10 other brands.
At the certification ceremony, Lee Woong-yeol, Honorary Chairman of Kolon Group, also attended to congratulate the certification and encourage the employees. It is reported that Chairman Lee personally provided ideas on the development direction of the Atometal material and its application to the Atomax golf ball, helping and advising on achieving the global certification record.
Chairman Lee said, "I sincerely congratulate the result of the first attempt with Kolon’s core value of the One & Only spirit being recognized as the world’s best," and added, "I hope you will not stop at this new record but continue to research, develop, and challenge with Kolon’s unique technology to keep setting the world’s best new records."
