Proposals Possible for Policy, Provincial Administration Slogans, and Governor's Official Residence Utilization Plans
A space has been created on the Gyeongsangnam-do official website where people can make policy proposals to Park Wan-su, the governor-elect of Gyeongsangnam-do, select slogans for the provincial administration, and suggest plans for the use of the governor's official residence.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Se-ryeong Lee] Governor-elect Park Wansu of Gyeongnam Province is opening an online communication channel with the transition team from the start to receive policy proposals from residents.
The transition team plans to prepare for the launch of the 8th term of the resident-centered local government by listening to the voices of residents, receiving policy proposals, conducting practical reviews, and reflecting them in administrative tasks.
On the first screen of the Gyeongsangnam-do website, anyone can click on the “Wishes to the Governor-elect of Gyeongnam Province” section to submit policy proposals and suggest slogans for the provincial administration.
The provincial administration slogan, usually selected within 15 characters, will function as a core value serving as a guiding point when discovering and promoting policies as the highest-level policy goal, and will be used in policy materials, promotional items, and signboards of the province and its affiliated organizations.
The transition team plans to select the optimal phrase reflecting the priority of economic recovery and the creation of an administration centered on 3.4 million residents, and incorporate it into the slogan.
On the provincial website, opinions can also be proposed regarding Governor-elect Park’s pledge, such as the use of the governor’s official residence.
Currently, the Gyeongnam governor’s official residence has remained vacant since last year after former Governor Kim Kyung-soo stepped down midway due to the Druking incident.
During the local election campaign, Governor-elect Park Wansu promised, “If elected governor, I will not move into the governor’s official residence,” and pledged to utilize the vacant governor’s residence and the former governor’s residence, currently used as a residents’ house, as welfare spaces for residents.
The governor’s official residence and the residents’ house located in Yongho-dong, Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, cover an area of 15,000㎡ and are popular among families, couples, and other visitors.
The transition team explained that supporting the residence of local government heads with tax money has been viewed as a relic of the appointed governor era and a symbol of authoritarianism, and that the residents’ house, opened in 2009, has been criticized for insufficient use due to low visitor numbers.
An official stated, “During the local election campaign, Governor-elect Park opened a residents’ camp at the campaign office and communicated with residents,” adding, “He will continue to listen attentively to residents’ voices through the online communication channel and fulfill his pledges.”
