Soonchul Cyber University (President Han Heon-su) announced that the Department of Child Studies in the Human Services Division has signed a business agreement with Jjaegak Ak-eo (CEO Kim Hee-jung), the largest O2O platform for childcare in Korea.
On the 9th at 3 p.m., at the first-floor conference room of Soonchul Cyber University’s Jongno campus, key officials including Professor Kim Young-sim, head of the Department of Child Studies at Soonchul Cyber University, and CEO Kim Hee-jung of Jjaegak Ak-eo attended the ceremony. They signed an agreement focusing on multifaceted cooperation including education and program development consulting, employment, and promotional support, promising close collaboration for mutual future development.
Founded in 2016, Jjaegak Ak-eo is a caregiver matching platform that connects families in need of childcare and education with play and learning teachers. Currently, 220,000 parent members and 100,000 caregivers are registered, with about 8,000 actively working teachers. Jjaegak Ak-eo also operates an offline experiential kids class space called 'Jjaegak Island' at four locations including Jamsil and Pangyo, creating a new culture where 'Ak-eo teachers' play with children while parents can relax or enjoy time together.
The Department of Child Studies at Soonchul Cyber University expects that through this agreement with Jjaegak Ak-eo, career paths for majors will diversify beyond employment at daycare centers and kindergartens to include childcare platforms, offline kids spaces, and research and development activities for educational content at child creativity research institutes.
Professor Kim Young-sim, head of the Department of Child Studies, stated, “Young parents raising young children today need efficient childcare support that meets their diverse demands. Jjaegak Ak-eo operates a customized care service 365 days a year for children aged 1 to elementary school students, including childcare, learning care, and play care, and alleviates parenting difficulties by providing educational services tailored to the characteristics of MZ generation parents.”
Professor Kim added, “By establishing an organic cooperative relationship with Jjaegak Ak-eo, which provides proactive care services, we will make great efforts to present a new milestone in child care education in Korea.”
Established in 2005 as the first cyber university department in Korea, the Department of Child Studies at Soonchul Cyber University aims to “train child specialists to make all children in Korea happy.” It focuses on nurturing creative and competent child education professionals who can actively respond to the 21st century’s globalization and specialization era, including daycare teachers, child counseling and parent education experts, and operators of infant and child institutions.
Graduates can obtain national certifications such as childcare teacher, level 2 social worker, healthy family specialist, and childcare teacher certification for children with disabilities (certificate).
Meanwhile, based on the Christian educational philosophy of “truth” and “service,” Soonchul Cyber University produces numerous talents who practice humanity and contribute to national and social development. It is a regular four-year higher education institution where students can earn a bachelor's degree and acquire nationally recognized certifications entirely through 100% online classes and exams.
The university is accelerating the establishment of a smart campus based on a powerful e-learning system and state-of-the-art LMS. It also leads lifelong education promotion through a specialized program that allows students to take major courses free of charge for life, both during enrollment and after graduation.
Additionally, Soonchul Cyber University offers tuition at about one-quarter the cost of regular offline universities and provides various internal scholarships such as admission, general, academic, clergy, military, industry-sponsored education, disability, and equal educational opportunity scholarships, supporting students to continue their studies without financial burden. Students can also benefit from dual benefits of national scholarships from the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
From June 1 to July 8, Soonchul Cyber University is conducting regular admissions for new and transfer students for the second semester of 2022 across 23 departments in 4 divisions, including the Department of Child Studies. Additional admissions will be held from July 20 to August 17. Applications can be submitted via the university’s admissions center website and mobile platform.
