Correcting Distorted Baekje History... Buyeo-gun Publishes 'Sabi Baekje History'

Chungnam Buyeo-gun Publishes "New Edition of Sabi Baekje History" on 17th
Reestablishing Distorted Baekje History Including King Uija and the Story of the Three Thousand Palace Women

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Yunjin Kim] Buyeo-gun, Chungnam Province, will publish the 「New Edition of Sabi Baekje History」 on the 17th. This is the result of two and a half years since the launch of the 'Reestablishment of Sabi Baekje History' project in January 2020. On the 16th, a day before the publication, a commemorative ceremony will be held at the Buyeo-gun Women's Culture Center.

The reestablishment of Sabi Baekje History is a project aimed at correcting the distorted history of Baekje and establishing a proper historical awareness. Buyeo-gun signed an agreement with the Baekje History and Culture Research Institute in 2020 and worked to secure credibility in the writing content by building a cooperative system with the Baekje Academic Society.

The writing of the New Edition of Sabi Baekje History involved 40 domestic Baekje researchers, including the compilation committee chairman Professor Seong Jeong-yong of Chungbuk National University, Professor Kwon Oh-young of Seoul National University, Professor Jeong Jae-yoon of Kongju National University, Professor Kim Nak-jung of Jeonbuk National University, and Professor Shin Hee-kwon of the University of Seoul, who underwent a rigorous review process.

Some historical records describe Baekje as a country that brought about its downfall due to the misrule of its monarchs. However, according to the New Edition of Sabi Baekje History, King Uija, who was branded as a failed monarch, was a bold and decisive figure, so much so that he was called the 'Haedong Zengzi' (the Confucius of the East Sea).

Additionally, this book explains how the widely known story of the Three Thousand Palace Women was distorted and reproduced, listing historical materials from the Goryeo Dynasty to the Japanese colonial period.

The New Edition of Sabi Baekje History is composed of three volumes: Volume 1 , Volume 2 , and Volume 3 .

Park Jeong-hyun, the governor of Buyeo-gun, said, "I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who worked hard during the publication process," and added, "We intend to widely promote the content and value of the book as an opportunity to correct the new perception of Baekje history."
