[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hyundai Motor's Avante N TCR won the WTCR Hungary race.
Hyundai Motor announced on the 13th that the 'Elantra N TCR (domestic name Avante N TCR)' won the 2022 WTCR Round 3 held at Hungaroring, Hungary, from the 10th to the 12th (local time).
The race featured 17 high-performance C-segment race cars including the Audi RS3 LMS, Honda Civic Type R TCR, Cupra Leon Competici?n, and Lynk & Co 03 TCR.
Mikel Azcona, who competed with the Elantra N TCR race car, won the first final race held on the 12th and finished 9th in the second final race, earning a total of 41 points and taking the lead in the driver standings.
Norbert Michelisz, also competing with the same race car, finished 4th in the second final race and scored a total of 17 points during the event.
The WTCR competition was newly established at the end of 2017 by merging the 'TCR International Series' and WTCC. It is one of the FIA-certified international competitions alongside Formula One and the World Rally Championship.
A Hyundai Motor official said, "Based on the solid fundamentals of the Elantra N TCR race car, we expect to achieve good results once again in front of motorsport fans worldwide. We will do our best in the remaining rounds to win the season championship based on this victory."
Hyundai Motor plans to support customer racing teams that purchased TCR race cars to achieve good results in the remaining 2022 competitions. The next round of the 2022 WTCR will be held in Spain from the 25th to the 26th (local time).
