[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has completed the spatial environment improvement project at the Imjingak tourist site.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 12th that the barrier-free tourism facility improvement project, including the creation of family-friendly restrooms at the Imjingak tourist site in Paju City, which has been promoted since August 2020 with a budget of 2.3 billion KRW from the resident participation budget based on proposals from residents, has recently been completed.
The main improvement projects include ▲removing curbs, leveling pavement surfaces, and easing slopes on the Pyeonghwa Nuri walking trail ▲installing stairs connecting the roof terrace to the interior, installing front glass, renovating the interior resting space and restrooms of the 'Life Candle Pavilion,' a resting space neglected due to facility aging ▲creating family-friendly restrooms where both men and women can participate in caregiving.
In particular, one of the two newly built restrooms, the Pyeonghwa Nuri restroom, adopts a military bunker style to harmonize with the surrounding barbed wire fence and is connected to the nearby hill to serve as a resting area and observatory.
Also, the Supul Nuri restroom was relocated near the Nuri Castle adventure playground, which was recently designated as an excellent playground facility by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, making it easier for children to use.
A provincial official emphasized, "Through the Imjingak tourist site spatial environment improvement project, the Imjingak tourist site will be reborn as a barrier-free tourism facility convenient for people with disabilities and families with infants and young children," adding, "We will continue to create an environment where anyone can travel without discrimination."
