Gyeongsangnam-do is holding the 35th Anniversary of the June 10 Democratic Uprising Commemoration Ceremony around 7 PM on the 10th.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The 35th anniversary ceremony of the June 10 Democratic Uprising was held on the evening of the 10th at 7 PM at Odong-dong Cultural Square in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam Province.
About 300 people attended the ceremony, including Ha Byeongpil, Acting Governor of Gyeongnam Province, Heo Seongmu, Mayor of Changwon, representatives of democratization organizations, and local residents.
The ceremony was sponsored by Gyeongnam Province and hosted by the June Uprising Spirit Succession Gyeongnam Association. It began with the screening of the opening video "1987, the Story of June," followed by a pre-ceremony performance by soprano Lee Nawon, commemorative speeches and poetry readings, musical performances, and concluded with the singing of the March for the Beloved.
Gyeongnam Province held the civic cultural festival to inherit the spirit of the June 10 Democratic Uprising and encourage active participation from residents.
The cultural festival featured exhibitions of photos from the June Uprising and modern history, photo zones, Nanta drumming and dance performances, and indie band concerts.
Acting Governor Ha Byeongpil stated, "Gyeongnam is a proud region that has cultivated a strong desire and capability for democracy more than anywhere else," adding, "We will carry on the spirit of the June Democratic Uprising by listening more closely to the voices of our residents and doing our best for their happiness."
