[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samyuk University (President Kim Ilmok) announced on the 10th that it will dispatch a volunteer corps consisting of 11 teams and 133 members nationwide during this summer vacation period.
Earlier, the Samyuk University Glocal Social Innovation Center Volunteer Corps held the ‘2022 Summer Volunteer Corps Launch Ceremony’ on the 8th at the Hong Myunggi Hall in Yohangwan on campus. At the launch ceremony, volunteer members including Park Shinbeom (4th year, Department of Chemical and Biological Science) pledged, “We will diligently engage in volunteer activities to honor the school and the nation.”
This is the first time in three years that Samyuk University is dispatching a large-scale volunteer corps during the vacation period. The launch ceremony was also held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19. During the period of social distancing measures, only a small number of volunteer teams were dispatched to institutions with specific requests. Overseas volunteer teams were completely halted. This summer’s volunteer corps consists of a total of 11 teams: 10 departmental volunteer teams and 1 overseas (Myanmar) online volunteer team.
The departmental volunteer teams include participants from the Department of Nursing, Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence, Department of Global Korean Studies, Department of Counseling Psychology, Department of Theology, and Department of Chemical and Biological Science, carrying out educational, medical, and labor volunteer activities. The students took the initiative to directly plan and design social volunteer programs that connect their majors and talents to volunteering. The Myanmar volunteer team conducts Korean language education online.
Yoon Jaeyoung, head of the Glocal Social Innovation Center Volunteer Corps, stated, “I hope this becomes a time to move away from ‘what is important to me’ to ‘what is important to my peers,’ and further to ‘what is important to the community.’” He added, “I hope we become a community that restores the broken and vanished community.”
