[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] SD Bioscience (CEO Park Seol-woong), a company specializing in the manufacturing and distribution of SNP cosmetics and health functional foods, announced on the 9th that it has received approval for the use of a 30 billion KRW smart factory for health foods. It has been 1 year and 3 months since construction began in March last year.
The newly completed second health food factory is located in Wonnam Industrial Complex, Sangno-ri, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and was completed with one basement floor and four above-ground floors. It has a total floor area of 17,908.64㎡ and is equipped with the latest manufacturing facilities and automated warehouses.
The Eumseong second factory plans to focus on producing high value-added formulations such as soft capsules, hard capsules, tablets, pills, and powders. It is currently finalizing work with the goal of obtaining GMP approval for the production line and pilot production by the end of this month. Full-scale factory operation is planned to begin in early July.
SD Bioscience recorded sales of 17 billion KRW in the health food sector at the end of last year. Including the newly completed second factory, the company plans to achieve 39.3 billion KRW this year. The company stated that it has been steadily preparing to expand its pre-sales network to increase the operating rate by the end of this year. The monthly production capacity (CAPA) of the Eumseong second factory is about 129.42 million units, and key personnel for factory operations such as R&D, production, and quality have already been secured.
SD Bioscience has invested in research and development (R&D) for health food manufacturing and sales for several years and already holds 13 patents registered and applied for food materials. The company stated that it will make mid- to long-term investments in acquiring individual recognition and developing additional proprietary materials in fields such as krill oil, steamed ginger extract powder, mugunghwa (hibiscus) materials, turmeric extract, radish leaf extract, and probiotics.
A company official said, "Through the completion of the second factory, we expect stable sales in the distribution and manufacturing of health foods, and based on aggressive ODM/OEM sales activities and high-quality differentiated materials, we will launch products that meet the standards of large health food distributors and pharmaceutical companies.”
