Applications Open from the 13th for Environmental Cleanup Activities on the Historical and Cultural Trail 'Gyeonggi Old Road'

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will operate the 'JUBKING' program, an environmental cleanup activity while walking the representative historical and cultural trail 'Gyeonggi Old Road,' starting from the 13th.

The 'JUBKING' program, operated annually by the province and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, is a compound word of 'jubda' (to pick up) and 'walking,' involving picking up trash while walking along the Gyeonggi Old Road as an environmental cleanup activity.

This year, after having winter and spring breaks, 'JUBKING Day' was operated one day at a time from April, but in June, the period was extended from the 13th to the 30th.

Individuals or groups wishing to participate can apply for activities on their desired schedule (same-day participation is also possible) through the Gyeonggi Old Road website (ggcr.kr) and freely perform 'JUBKING' anywhere along the Gyeonggi Old Road.

The province is conducting an event where the first 50 participants who submit an 'activity report' after applying will receive a mobile ice cream voucher. Volunteer hours will also be recognized for 2 hours.

A provincial official stated, "We plan to expand the scale of the JUBKING program in June to assess its outcomes and later establish it as a leading eco-friendly exploration program by linking it with corporate social responsibility activities. We hope many residents will participate in activities that protect the environment while walking the Gyeonggi Old Road, which embraces history and culture."

The Gyeonggi Old Road is a historical and cultural exploration trail created to allow people to experience history and culture by walking the six major routes based on the Dorogo (Road Study) written by Shin Gyeong-jun, a practical scholar of the Joseon Dynasty.

Since its launch in 2013, five routes have been established: Samnam-gil (Gwacheon to Pyeongtaek, 99.6 km), Uiju-gil (Goyang to Paju, 56.4 km), Yeongnam-gil (Seongnam to Icheon, 116 km), Pyeonghae-gil (Guri to Yangpyeong, 125 km), and Gyeongheung-gil (Uijeongbu to Pocheon, 89.2 km). The last of the six major Gyeonggi Old Road routes, Ganghwa-gil, will open in September.
