Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee Holds Meeting with Autonomous Police Citizen Policy Advisory Group... Discussing 'Measures to Revitalize the Advisory Group'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee announced on the 10th that it held a meeting with about 30 members of the Citizen Policy Advisory Group at the Seoul Citizens Hall on the 9th.

This meeting was organized as a platform to enhance the advisory group's understanding of the autonomous police system and to strengthen communication between the Autonomous Police Committee and the advisory group, enabling them to actively play a role in discovering and advising on major future autonomous police policy tasks.

At the event, following an introduction to the autonomous police system, a special lecture titled "Changing Your Thinking to See the Way" was given by Jo Gwan-il, CEO of the Creative Management Research Institute. Afterwards, there was a discussion with the advisory group on "Measures to Revitalize the Citizen Policy Advisory Group."

The advisory group proposed various ideas to activate operations, such as organizing the approximately 300-member advisory group by region and suggesting security projects linked with honorary police officers. These opinions will be reviewed and reflected in future improvements to the operation of the Citizen Policy Advisory Group.

The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Citizen Policy Advisory Group was launched last November with 311 members recommended by each police station and other organizations. It performs roles including proposing autonomous police policies, discovering neighborhood security improvement matters, and promoting major security policies.

Due to COVID-19 and local elections, it was difficult to hold face-to-face communication sessions, so operations were conducted non-face-to-face via SNS. Through this first face-to-face meeting, active proposals regarding the autonomous police system are expected to be generated through communication with the advisory group.

Kim Hak-bae, Chairperson of the Autonomous Police Committee, stated, "As the role of citizens as participants in security policy is emphasized through the implementation of the autonomous police system, the activities of the advisory group are more important than anything else," and added, "We expect the functions of the advisory group to expand further through communication with the advisory group this time."
