Sancheong-gun, Revitalizing an Environment for Intergenerational Harmony between Elderly and Youth

Members of the Environmental Guardians are carrying out river restoration activities.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Sancheong-gun Volunteer Center in Gyeongnam announced on the 9th that it carried out river environment restoration and environmental education activities together with about 30 members of the Sancheong-gun Environmental Guardians.

This activity included environmental education to learn about the ecology of the river connected to the Gyeonghogang River in the area of Daejang Village, Geumseo-myeon.

The ‘Generational Sympathy - Sancheong-gun Environmental Guardians’ activity is an excellent program selected in the Gyeongnam Volunteer Center’s public project.

It is a climate crisis response volunteer program that encourages the elderly and youth generations to learn about Sancheong’s environment together and to take an interest in environmental changes.

Together with Park Deok-seon, an instructor from ‘Gyeongnam Forest of Life,’ participants learned about past and present river environments and water quality changes, and engaged in drawing flora and fauna living in the river connected to the Gyeonghogang River using a field guide.

An elderly participant said, “It is especially meaningful to participate in activities protecting the Gyeonghogang River, a symbol of our Sancheong, together with growing youth,” adding, “I hope we all preserve and nurture it well to pass it on to future generations.”

The ‘Generational Sympathy - Sancheong-gun Environmental Guardians’ activity will continue until October. The program plans to create local environmental and ecological protection outputs such as flora and fauna field guides and essays, and promote environmental campaigns targeting local residents.
