Selected for Educational Management Section, Award Ceremony on the 9th at 11 AM at The Plaza Hotel Seoul
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Lee Yong-hoon, President of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), was selected in the education management category of the ‘2022 Korea’s Most Influential CEO.’ The award ceremony was held at 11 a.m. on the 9th at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
‘Korea’s Most Influential CEO’ is an event that annually selects the top executives of companies and institutions who have played the greatest role in the development of each industry or field, and publishes their management cases in a book. The event is hosted by TV Chosun and this year marks its 10th anniversary.
President Lee Yong-hoon was recognized for his achievements in leading innovation in science and engineering undergraduate education and contributing to scientific and technological innovation in the southeastern region, and was selected as the winner in the education management category.
President Lee judged that it would be difficult to keep up with the rapidly changing pace of scientific and technological innovation by continuing to follow the 50-year-old model of science and engineering education as it is.
He promoted innovation in science and engineering undergraduate education that enables faster acquisition of advanced technologies and learning through practical experience. The goals of educational innovation were twofold. President Lee set the objectives to produce founders of innovative companies like ‘Google’ and to nurture world-class researchers comparable to Nobel laureates.
He has also taken the lead in preempting issues such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, smart healthcare, and carbon neutrality, and has promoted advanced research in these fields.
These fields are considered key areas that will change the future, and he believes that focusing on their development will not only enhance the competitiveness of universities but also achieve regional industrial innovation.
President Lee Yong-hoon said, “UNIST aims to become the best science and technology university in Korea,” adding, “We will establish ourselves as a hub of scientific and technological innovation in the southeastern region encompassing Ulsan, Busan, and Gyeongnam, and become a world-leading science and technology university that always leads new changes.”
