Hong Nampyo, Mayor-elect of Changwon Special City, Launches Transition Committee... "Ready to Serve Immediately Upon Inauguration" Hong Nampyo, the elected mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, is speaking about the transition committee.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 8th, the Changwon Special Mayor Transition Committee inauguration ceremony was held at Changwon City Hall in Gyeongnam.

Hong Nampyo, the elected mayor of Changwon, said, “The transition committee will establish a foundation for stabilizing city administration and promptly resolving local issues simultaneously with the inauguration of the 8th elected government. It will present the vision of Changwon as a Northeast Asia central city to citizens through continuity and innovation in city administration.”

The transition committee is composed of 13 members, with Jo Youngpa, former 2nd Deputy Mayor of Changwon, as chairman, and Jo Myungrae, dean of the College of Korean Medicine at Dongshin University, as vice chairman. An advisory committee chaired by Hwang Chanhyun, former chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, was also established.

The Planning and Coordination Division is led by Cha Sanghee, former mayor of Seongsan District Office, Hong Eunpyo, vice president of Woojin Logics, and Kim Hansoon, chairman of the Central Council of Credit Cooperatives. The Industrial Economy Division is managed by Yoon Heonsu, invited professor at Chungbuk National University, and Ha Heonyeong, principal researcher at the Korea Institute of Materials Science.

The Social Welfare Division is handled by Kim Youngpyo, director of Gyeongnam Policy Evaluation Institute, and Joo Misong, former head of Culture and Sanitation Division of Jinhae District, Changwon City. The Education and Culture Division is in charge of Kwon Youngmin, professor at Changwon Moonsung University, and Woo Soonki, director of Jinhae Cultural Center.

The Urban Planning Division is managed by Hwang Insik, senior research fellow at Changwon City Research Institute, and Seo Aesook, research professor at Sungkyunkwan University. The Youth and Women Division is handled by Kim Jaegu, director of Student Affairs at Gyeongnam University, and Heo Insook, CEO of Saramgwa Haeyang Investment Consulting.

Mayor-elect Hong said that the advisory committee was established to complement the transition committee by presenting directions for resolving various pending projects that were neglected or showed disorder in city administration.

“Over the past four years, Changwon City failed to proactively respond to the 4th Industrial Revolution era, and with the COVID-19 pandemic overlapping, the economy and finances faced crises, making citizens’ lives difficult. We will further develop the strengths of the 7th elected government and promote improvement and innovation through cold evaluation and precise diagnosis of its shortcomings,” he expressed his aspirations.

He added that they plan to identify problems and devise solutions for large-scale projects such as Masan Marine New City and Changwon Complex Cultural Town, while thoroughly analyzing the city organization, finances, and major pending projects to ensure the smooth implementation of pledges.

Mayor-elect Hong said, “The transition committee, which will operate until the inauguration of the 8th elected mayor, will draw a blueprint that solidifies innovation in Changwon. We will prepare thoroughly so that we can serve the citizens immediately from the day of inauguration on July 1.”
