[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Daeyang Electric Industry is showing strong performance. As the Black Sea coastal major grain export ports are blocked due to the Ukraine crisis, intensifying the global food crisis, news that it takes six months to remove naval mines seems to have influenced the stock price.
At 10:31 AM on the 8th, Daeyang Electric Industry was trading at 14,500 KRW, up 9.43% from the previous day.
According to the British daily The Guardian, Ukrainian officials estimate that it will take six months just to remove the naval mines installed around the Black Sea ports. Markiyan Dmytrasevych, advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture and Food, explained, "Thousands of naval mines are floating around the Black Sea ports," adding, "If these mines are removed, the operation will take until the end of the year."
With the resumption of grain exports expected to be difficult at least until the end of the year, concerns are rising that the surge in grain prices will continue for some time. Since the outbreak of the war, maritime export routes from Ukraine's major ports have been blocked, and it is estimated that more than 20 million tons of grain nationwide are unable to be exported and are accumulating in grain warehouses.
Daeyang Electric Industry supplied the ‘Unmanned Mine Disposal Vehicle-II’ to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). Since 2018, DAPA has been deploying the Unmanned Mine Disposal Vehicle-II annually, developed by applying domestic marine robot technology to replace the outdated unmanned mine disposal vehicles imported and operated from overseas.
The Unmanned Mine Disposal Vehicle-II identifies underwater objects suspected to be naval mines and sends them out via remote control. It searches for underwater targets using a sonar (acoustic detector) mounted on the front. When it approaches within a distance where visual identification is possible, it confirms whether it is a mine using a TV camera. If judged to be a mine, it installs explosive charges for removal and detonates them or cuts the mooring rope connected underwater to dispose of it.
